My Favorite Rotarian and His First District Conference
Don is so gung-ho about attending assemblies and conferences nowadays that I thought he must have been going to them ever since he joined Rotary. Not so. He got pushed into going to district assemblies because he had to learn about various offices and responsibilities but he never went to the District Conference until he absolutely had to, the year he was President-Elect. He didn't consider himself socially outgoing.
I asked him if he had a good time when he finally went and he said, "Yes!" There was a band, a dance, good food and drink, exchange students put on skits and gave talks, and he made friends, heard some good speakers, and hasn’t missed a year since.
I was lucky that in my first year as a Rotarian Don made sure we went to the District Assembly and conferences together. I would have missed the whole international flavor of Rotary if I hadn’t. I love knowing people from other clubs and districts.
Dip your toe in. Go!

DICTIONARY DELIVERY
Tom Phelps, Wendy Kincade, and Peggy and Don Malcolm delivered dictionaries to the Philomath Grade School third grades last Tuesday, March 29. Tom explained to each class how Rotary is eradicating Polio throughout the world by immunizing children. In some cultures children live where water is not sanitary to drink.
The students then looked in their dictionary for these words.

Tom explaining “eradicate”

Where is that word? Peggy assisting “sanitary” |

CLUB VISIONING RESULTS
At the Club Visioning Meeting on Feb. 26, there were two line items that were overwhelmingly agreed on:
· To have the best new member training around with Firesides, orientation documents, training, mentorship and enhance Blue Badge program.
March 29 is our next Fireside. It is being held at the home of Kathy and Bruce DeYoung. Newer members and longer-term members are both invited. We had a good start in our current Fireside program at President Josh’s house. This will present more than was covered at the last Fireside.
· All members to attend District Training Assembly & District Conference every 2-3 years
Saturday, April 2 is the District Training Assembly in Cottage Grove. This is a 9AM to 3PM event. I just looked at the agenda. WOW! There are breakout sessions for everyone. The one that really caught my eye is the NETS (New Member Education Training Seminar.) It sounds ideal for our newer members. And that can include anyone who isn’t required to attend other sessions. Only 50 participants will be accepted for this breakout, so register now!
The other breakout sessions are for: President Elects, Secretary, Youth Exchange, Public Relations, Rotary Foundation, Matching Grants, President Nominee, Club Administration, First Harvest, Friendship Exchange, Treasurer, Membership, Family of Rotary, and Visioning. Whew! I have never seen such a complete offering at a District Training Assembly.
There is no fee to attend. Even lunch is free. We can carpool to Cottage Grove High School, 1375 South River Road, Cottage Grove. Check out the curriculum at http://district5110.org/Meetings/DistrictAssemblySessions and then click on the Register button.
